Nothing is ever cast in SToNe or is it?

When something is ‘cast in stone’ it is fixed and cannot be altered, so it means changes cannot be made. But is anything ever cast in stone?

Just wondering out loud becuz I’ve been checking and I’m wondering if the Bible sef is cast in stone. (Now no offense christians) but the laws in the old and new testament differ. Afterall, if we are going by the rules of the old testament, you wouldn’t even be allowed inside the temple (sorry i forgot, we call it church now).

Even the Almighty US of A with their wonderful and heart-endearing slogan “we don’t negotiate with terrorists” and now Bowe Berghadl was exchanged for five top taliban officials who had been held prisoners for more than 10 years. And just now, America has realised that they do not pose a threat to national security. Also, Bowe is now labelled a POW (prisoner of war).

You’re wondering where this argument is leading. I will tell you. The only thing i have seen that looks to be cast in stone is the way  African women are treated as 2nd class citizens.  Now I know its the women themselves who are going to take up arms to attack me now but its painful that we’ve been soo marginalised we regard it as normal.

I don’t understand how it is traditional/African/Christian motherly/whatever bullshit you decide to call it for a woman to do the house chores while the man watches tv but completely barbaric to live in a hut or have clay plates and pots. How come our Africanness moved to ceramic plates which are western by the way but remained behind on the issue of house chores?  How come our Africanness moved ahead in the area of men making their wives work and sharing in the family’s financial responsibility but is still lagging behind in the area of men sharing in the food responsibility?

Nowadays women are expected to work but their jobs should be chosen with due consideration for how it affects their family (I personally think its imperative the couple consider this, only that the men are not expected to consider their families in their job quest and the ones that do, are labelled homely and award-winners as if they are a different specie from Mars), women are expected to be wise and at the same time,  obey (no the word is submit to) their husbands that includes standing by him even when his wrong decisions are affecting her negatively.

The era when the man was a protector of his household has disappeared,  this is the time of the thinkers and believe me, we have refused to change, no, budge from our stance since 1960. The strongest is no longer the tallest nor the man with the biggest biceps or practically non-existant neck. The strongest is the one with enough functioning brain cells and those are equally distributed amongst the sexes.

And that is my point,  that nothing is cast in stone except the traditional views we have of women and their roles in the society.  When I say ‘We’, I mean both men and women, you and I, and that doesn’t fit into the laws of universe.

  1. hahahaaaa… I beg save your breath on this o jare…. this oneaint changing anytime soon so long as its Nigeria and Nigerians are involved:

We will wake 4am, give our husband hot water to bath, make his food, have our baths then head for work by 5:30… come back hopefully before 8, make dinner, bath husband and children, do homework for children, make love to your husband and put him to sleep, wash the dishes so that you dont have to face that the next morning…then set your alarm for 4am as you sleep by 11:45

  2. Lol. This post cracked me up. Changes like this has to start at the individual level. If everyman was open to engaging gender roles different from societal expectations in their homes, it will catch on eventually on a larger scale.

  3. Well, like Anastasia likes to say “I didn’t promise to obey you!” Sorry for the Fifty Shades reference. It’s the only thing that came to mind.

We women are part of the problem. It’s like we don’t feel worthy enough to demand how we want to be treated and not settle for anything less.

Shebi when I say my own they will say I never wan marry. Hmm. Where are the class 3 men Biko.

    1. Good one @the fifty shades quote.
I agree we women are a major part of the problem ‘cos we take a stand and say a big fat NO but the question is: Will we?
Loooolllll at your last paragraph. The Class 3 men are very few and hidden in my closet ‘winks’. But they will greatly multiply if we raise our sons differently
